| NDG defeats Community Park to finish round robin in 2nd place |

Oakville, ON – The NDG Senior Lynx from Montreal defeated the Prairies champion Community Park Reds 3-1 in what was the final round robin game for both teams. With the win NDG finished with a 3-2 record to secure second place behind the 5-0 Whalley Chiefs. With the loss Edmonton's Community Park falls to 2-3 to secure one of the final two playoff spots. The game featured little offense from either side due do strong pitching and defense. The Lynx were able to capitalize on their chances in a game that featured very few. Matthew Chiovitti opened the scoring for the Lynx in the third inning with an RBI double off of Reds starter Kyle Harris. Defensive errors would cost the Reds another run in the fourth inning when a wild throw to first-base lead to a close play at the plate as Lynx base-runner Danilo Cardoza slid in safely to make the game 2-0 for the Lynx. The Reds came back in the bottom of the fifth inning when Reds outfielder Mike Bayans drove in a run with a sac fly to make the game 2-1. The Reds looked to tie the game in the sixth inning with the tying run on third base and none out. With the lead at stake, Lynx starter Remel Chris-Ong pitched his way out of the jam with two strikeouts and a ground out to end the inning. The Lynx would go on to add an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single from Matthew Chiovitti. Chiovitti’s second RBI hit of the game. With a two run lead the Lynx looked to substitute pitcher Jeremi Roch to close the game. Roch shut the Reds down in a one-two-thee inning with two strikeouts and a ground out to give the Lynx the win. Lynx starter Remel Chris-Ong earned the win bringing his tournament record to 2-0. Lynx pitcher Jeremi Roch earned the save, his first in one opportunity. Reds starter Kyle Harris suffered the loss despite having a strong outing on the mound. Harris’ record is 1-1 in the tournament. With the win NDG will now play the Whalley Chiefs in the 1st Place vs. 2nd Place playoff game tomorrow, with the winner moving directly to Friday's Championship final. The loser will move to the semi-final vs. the winner of the 3rd Place vs. 4th Place playoff game. |
